Perplexity’s Personal Computer is not a Mac mini story. It is a bet that your machine can become a trusted worker. Will this replace the Operating System?
Perplexity Computer is great and almost ready for production level use. It's still slow and at times clumsy. It can stun you sometimes or leave you watching credits get eaten while it surfs the web like it's 1999.
But killing /shortcuts in Pro is just weird. Comet Assistant Shortcuts worked like nothing else. Now it's AI road kill. It makes no sense and completely detracts from the importance of the Computing rollout as now it's a mad scramble to salvage processes that worked a charm 3 days ago.
I seriously don't understand what they are doing. The only AI assistant that currently works has just had a lobotomy done to it.
The whole point of comet assistant shortcuts has been broken.
What's so crazy is the text prompts attached to shortcuts all still work as pasted prompts. Just no easy access. I've got it telling me to use a cut and paste thread in a space. or a browser text plug in - or even better a Shorkeys macro.
It reminds me of pets.com - or any one of those high flyers from decades past. One mistake too many and it's alta la vista.

Yeah, the credit burn can be absolutely nuts. I left a lot of feedback to them.
I had one instance, where it burnt through 250 credits to index my downloads folder...
Literally done by just pointing the Terminal or Finder on folder, OS indexes by default.
Then it spent another 250 credits putting my jpegs into a folder named jpg.
Feels like it ties into LLM logic in general, somethings are PhD level, but it can't see a opacity: 0; bug.

Helpful article. Thanks!
The personal computer era feels like it is starting over again. Local AI changes everything about how we work.
